Melkersson-Rosenthal syndrome (MRS) is a rare disease characterized by the triad of granulomatous cheilitis, fissured tongue, and facial paralysis. Publications concerning large series are rare in the literature. To describe the clinical and histopathological characteristics of patients with complete and oligosymptomatic forms of MRS. A retrospective records review was performed for the diagnoses of Melkersson-Rosenthal syndrome, granulomatous cheilitis, and orofacial granulomatosis at oral Diseases Clinic of the Department of Dermatology, University of São Paulo, Brazil (2003, 2017). A total of 51 patients were included, mean age at presentation 35.69 years. Four patients were younger than 18 years. The complete triad of was observed in 10 patients. The rare findings of granulomatous blepharitis, gingivitis and palatitis are presented. Comorbidities included Crohn's disease (5 patients), migraine headaches (1 patient) and convulsions (2 patients). Granulomatous inflammatory infiltrate was detected in 31 biopsies. see more Medical therapies included included oral and intralesional steroids, thalidomide, dapsone, azathioprine, tetracycline, methotrexate, and surgery, with variable responses. Our report meant to draw attention to the clinical spectrum of this rare disorder, mainly to oligosymptomatic forms and rarer presentations. Our report meant to draw attention to the clinical spectrum of this rare disorder, mainly to oligosymptomatic forms and rarer presentations. This collaborative statement from the International Society for Holter and Noninvasive Electrocardiology/Heart Rhythm Society/European Heart Rhythm Association/Asia-Pacific Heart Rhythm Society describes the current status of mobile health technologies in arrhythmia management. The range of digital medical tools and heart rhythm disorders that they may be applied to and clinical decisions that may be enabled are discussed. The facilitation of comorbidity and lifestyle management (increasingly recognized to play a role in heart rhythm disorders) and patient self-management are novel aspects of mobile health. The promises of predictive analytics but also operational challenges in embedding mobile health into routine clinical care are explored.Cleft lip and palate is a congenital disorder including cleft lip, and/or cleft palate, and/or alveolar cleft, with high incidence. The alveolar cleft causes morphological and functional abnormalities. To obtain bone bridge formation and continuous structure between alveolar clefts, surgical interventions are performed from infancy to childhood. However, desirable bone bridge formation is not obtained in many cases. Regenerative medicine using mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) is expected to be a useful strategy to obtain sufficient bone bridge formation between alveolar clefts. In this study, we examined the effect of human umbilical cord-derived MSCs by transplantation into a rat experimental alveolar cleft model. Human umbilical cords were digested enzymatically and the isolated cells were collected (UC-EZ cells). Next, CD146-positive cells were enriched from UC-EZ cells by magnetic-activated cell sorting (UC-MACS cells). UC-EZ and UC-MACS cells showed MSC gene/protein expression, in vitro. Both cells had multie useful for the alveolar cleft regeneration.Recruitment of a sufficient number of healthcare providers (HCPs), such as nurses and nurse practitioners (NPs), as participants is essential to generate high quality research to address issues significant for clinical practice. Often the recruitment process reported in research studies is very brief and does not capture the reality of the challenges of obtaining an adequate sample. This manuscript describes the challenges that we experienced in trying to recruit a sufficient number of HCPs, specifically NPs, into a randomized controlled trial. Based on our experience, as well as a review of the literature on recruiting HCPs, we share recommendations for researchers trying to recruit busy professionals as participants. Key findings were not just about reaching the target participants, but actually using strategies to stimulate their interest and persuading them to be involved from the beginning. Important things to consider for successful recruitment are making an effort to meet with professionals face-to-face and building relationships with administrators and other staff within organizations. Other lessons learned were to ensure to allot extra time for recruitment to allow for unanticipated challenges and to utilize multimodal strategies simultaneously to ensure a more timely execution of the recruitment process.Adults and young people with somatoform disorders and somatic symptoms retrospectively report high rates of sexual abuse. We aimed to assess somatic symptoms in young people in the aftermath of a sexual assault and to document links with assault characteristics, with psychopathology and with related functional impairment. This was a prospective cohort study of adolescents seen in specialized clinics in London in the first 6 weeks following a sexual assault and at 4-5 months follow-up. We enquired about somatic symptoms (headaches, abdominal pain and sickness) pre and post assault, and we assessed psychiatric disorders and functional impairment at follow-up using validated scales. Information was obtained on 94 females (mean age 15.6, SD 1.3). There was a statistically significant increase in the number of adolescents reporting somatic symptoms at 4-5-month follow-up (65/94, 69%) (p = 0.035), compared with estimated pre-assault rates (52/94, 55%) and a significant increase in somatic symptoms at follow-up among the victims of violent sexual abuse (p less then .001). Subjects with somatic symptoms at follow-up had significant higher rates of psychiatric disorders - especially generalised anxiety disorder, panic disorder and major depressive disorders - as well as lower psychosocial functioning (p less then 0.01), than those without somatic symptoms. Advance Care Planning supports patients to share their personal values, goals, and preferences for future medical care with their family members and healthcare professionals. The aim of this review was to uncover what is known about patients with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease and their experiences with Advance Care Planning. A systematic review and thematic synthesis of qualitative studies was undertaken. Five databases were searched for qualitative articles published between 2009-2019. The review was guided by the PRISMA framework and seven studies met the eligibility criteria. Thematic synthesis of descriptive themes in each article was undertaken to develop overarching analytical themes, related to the experience of patients with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease and Advance Care Planning. Four analytical themes emerged from the review of the articles that met the inclusion criteria patient readiness and willingness for Advance Care Planning discussions; considering the future; trusted relationships with healthcare professionals; and shared decision making.
