PRM may be a safe, useful, and cost-effective technique for non-experts learning to perform colorectal ESD. Lenvatinib, a multitargeted tyrosine kinase inhibitor, was recently approved for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) treatment in Japan; however, the association between proteinuria following lenvatinib administration in HCC patients and early mortality is unknown. This study aimed to examine the association between nephrotic-range proteinuria (NRP) and mortality and evaluated the risk factors for NRP among Japanese HCC patients treated with lenvatinib. We retrospectively analyzed 45 consecutive patients receiving lenvatinib from 2018-2019. Primary outcome was overall survival. Cox proportional hazards regression was used to evaluate the association between NRP and overall survival. Logistic regression analyses were used to identify NRP risk factors after lenvatinib initiation. The median age was 66 years, 56% were women, and 20% had pre-existing proteinuria. During a 1-year median follow-up, 24 died, and 5 developed NRP. Univariable logistic regression showed that pre-existing proteinuria was associated with higher NRP risk; however, the association was not significant after covariate adjustment. Following multivariable Cox analysis, NRP did not affect overall survival in advanced HCC patients receiving lenvatinib. Urinalysis findings should be monitored regularly in patients receiving lenvatinib because NRP incidence was comparable to that of prior studies. Identifying the predictors of NRP after lenvatinib initiation warrants further investigation.Urinalysis findings should be monitored regularly in patients receiving lenvatinib because NRP incidence was comparable to that of prior studies. This study aimed to access the effectiveness of serum neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) in patients undergoing prostate needle biopsy with a prostate specific antigen (PSA) between 4.0 and 10.0 ng/ml. A total of 633 cases were eligible. We evaluated several factors including age, PSA, PSA-density (PSAD), platelet-to-lymphocyte ratio (PLR) and NLR in the presence or absence of prostate cancer (PCa), retrospectively. We evaluated statistically the associations between each factor and pathological findings or Gleason score. A total of 201 were evaluated in this study. Regarding the presence or absence of prostate cancer, there were statistically significant differences in age, PSA levels, PSAD, the PLR and NLR. The mean NLR value of the patients with PCa was significantly lower compared to the entire cohort. Multivariate analysis showed that age, PSAD, and NLR were independent risk factors predicting PCa. For patients having a PSA between 4.0 and 10.0 ng/ml, NLR was a predicting factor of PCa prior to prostate needle biopsy and an effective biomarker and useful tool for avoiding unnecessary biopsies. For patients having a PSA between 4.0 and 10.0 ng/ml, NLR was a predicting factor of PCa prior to prostate needle biopsy and an effective biomarker and useful tool for avoiding unnecessary biopsies. The association between preoperative ultrasound (US) echogenicity and histopathological characteristics of papillary thyroid cancer (PTC) has been rarely investigated is not well characterized. This study evaluated a relationship between the clinical characteristics of PTC, histopathological phenomena including tumor growth patterns (TGPs) and tumor fibrosis (TF), and US echogenicity. In total, 170 patients with PTC (<2 cm) underwent total thyroidectomy with central neck dissection. check details Demographics, US echogenicity, tumor size, extra-thyroidal extension (ETE), lymph node metastasis (LNM) within the central and lateral neck, TGPs, and TF percentage were reviewed. Patients with TGP II (encapsulated growth with partial pericapsular extension) and III (infiltrative growth) were more frequently burdened by ETE and lateral neck LNM compared to patients with TGP I (encapsulated growth with a well-defined cystic or solid characteristic). Older age was significantly deterministic of TGP III, and male gender and higher TF percentage were independent risk factors for lateral neck LNM. TGP III and TF were independent determining factors for marked hypoechogenicity on US. PTC with TGP II and III and higher tumor fibrosis exhibited more aggressive clinicopathologic behaviors. TGP III and TF were determinants for marked hypoechogenicity.PTC with TGP II and III and higher tumor fibrosis exhibited more aggressive clinicopathologic behaviors. This study evaluated the diagnostic accuracy of leukocyte esterase (LE) and glucose (GLC) strip tests for diagnosing SA. Synovial fluids from 455 patients with atraumatic joint effusions were assessed prospectively over a 5-year period with LE and glucose strip tests. Results were compared to modified Newman criteria for diagnosing joint infections. Synovial fluid cultures, crystal, blood and synovial cell analyses were also performed. Forty-one patients had SA and 252 non-SA. A positive LE reading combined with negative glucose reading could detect SA with 100% specificity, 85% sensitivity, 100% positive predictive value (PPV) and 98% negative predictive value (NPV). Positive synovial LE reading alone detected SA with 82% specificity, 95% sensitivity, 47% PPV, and 99% NPV. Combined LE and glucose strip tests represent a low-cost tool for rapidly diagnosing or ruling out SA.Combined LE and glucose strip tests represent a low-cost tool for rapidly diagnosing or ruling out SA. More than half of deaths among hemodialysis patients are due to cardiovascular disease. This study examined whether intravenous administration of ferric carboxymaltose (FCM) has an impact on cardiovascular events in iron-deficient hemodialysis patients. We performed a retrospective study concerning patients undergoing hemodialysis in our center from September 2016 to December 2019. We identified those who began FCM therapy (FCM group) during this period and those who did not (control group). We analyzed clinical, echocardiographic and laboratory parameters at the beginning (t0) and after one year (t1), to detect differences between the two groups. We identified 53 patients for the FCM group and 19 for the control group. Median follow-up was 1 year±3 months for both groups. In the FCM group, we observed a reduction in the doses of erythropoiesis-stimulating agents (ESA) (p<0.001) and a significative difference in cardiovascular events (p<0.01), but no differences in echocardiographic parameters. Patients who received FCM reached satisfactory values of transferrin saturation and ferritin, presented fewer coronary artery events and cardiovascular events, and could reduce doses of ESA.
