Results The highest percentage (41%) of loaded amlodipine onto nanodiamond particles was achieved in alkaline medium using 2 mM NaOH at a corresponding pH of 8.5. Also, characteristic FTIR bands of amlodipine and nanodiamond were shown obviously in the nanodiamond-amlodipine conjugates. Moreover, the successful loading of amlodipine on diamond nanoparticles was confirmed by transmission electron microscopy. Conclusion The present study demonstrates the successful loading of amlodipine onto nanodiamond particles. These findings offer a potential for applying diamond nanoparticles as a drug delivery system to shuttle amlodipine into the brain and open the door to deliver other similar drugs into the brain. © 2019 Alawdi et al.Background Treatment of obstructive lung disease with inhalation therapy needs changes in patient behavior. Shortly after the start with inhaled corticosteroids (ICS) maintenance therapy, patients might be in need of additional pharmaceutical care, tailored to their individual needs. This study aimed to provide insight into patient behavior, goals and perceptions regarding their medical treatment at start with ICS therapy, by telephone interviews with ICS starters. Besides, this study investigated pharmacists' and patients' experiences with these interviews and opinions on the utility of this type of consultation for daily practice. Methods Semi-structured telephone interviews were conducted by pharmacists with adult patients 2-3 weeks after starting ICS. The Theoretical Domain Framework (TDF) was used for data analysis and coding. Afterward, the patients and pharmacists were questioned about their experiences with the interview. Results Five pharmacists conducted interviews with 23 ICS starters. Except the dheir pharmacist, and the pharmacists experienced that the interviews had added value. this website © 2020 Kuipers et al.Purpose This study aimed to evaluate outpatient satisfaction in tertiary hospitals in Shiyan, China, to predict which items had highest priorities for outpatient satisfaction, and to identify population groups on which the medical institutions should focus. Patients and Methods A cross-sectional survey was conducted at three tertiary hospitals in Shiyan city of China, from March to June 2018. An 18-item outpatient satisfaction questionnaire was applied. We conducted matrix analysis to describe the distribution of satisfaction score and the degree of influence of the items. Outpatient satisfaction was classified into the lowest and highest groups according to the 80/20 rule. Logistic regression model was used to identify demographic factors which might influence outpatient satisfaction. Results A total of 2109 valid questionnaires were completed. The "waiting time", "diagnosis and treatment time" and "medical charges" items showed relatively higher degrees of influence but earned lower levels of satisfaction. e professionals to improve the patients' satisfaction. © 2020 Ke et al.Background Organ donation is commonly evaluated by biomedical ethicists based largely on principlism with autonomy at the top of the "moral mountain." Lay people may differ in the way they invoke and balance the various ethical interests. We explored lay people's ethical attitudes to organ donation. Methods Respondents (n=196) ranked 42 opinion-statements on organ donation according to a 9-category symmetrical distribution. Statements' scores were analyzed by averaging-analysis and Q-methodology. Results Respondents' mean (SD) age was 34.5 (10.6) years, 53% were women, 69% Muslims (30% Christians), 29% Saudis (26% Filipinos), and 38% healthcare-related. The most-agreeable statements were "Acceptable if benefit to recipient large," "Explicit donor consent and family approval for live donation," "Acceptable if directed to family member," and "Explicit donor consent and family approval for postmortem donation." The most-disagreeable statements were "Donor consent and family approval not required for postmortem d2) ranking of some statements was associated with respondents' demographics; 3) Q-methodology identified various ethical resolution models that were partially masked by averaging-analysis; and 4) strong virtue and familism approaches in our respondents provide some empirical evidence against principlism adequacy. © 2020 Hammami et al.Purpose There are growing concerns about patients' adherence to oral anticancer agents (OAAs), and the need for patients to engage in self-management of OAA-related side effects. We assessed associations among adherence, severity of side effects, and effectiveness of self-management of side effects in patients taking capecitabine. Methods Adherence to capecitabine at 6 weeks was measured by the Medication Event Monitoring System among 50 patients with gastrointestinal cancers. Severity of side effects related to capecitabine and effectiveness of self-management of side effects were captured using the Modified Self-Care Diary at the time of enrollment and weekly for 6 weeks. Spearman's correlation, Mann-Whitney U-tests, and multiple linear regression were conducted, p less then 0.05. Results Overall mean adherence rate was 85.4±14.1%. Adherence rate was not significantly correlated to the mean severity of total side effects at any time point and was correlated with the mean effectiveness of self-management of t of side effects in OAA therapy. © 2019 Jiang et al.Introduction Hesperetin-5,7,3'-O-trimethylether (HTME), a synthetic liposoluble hesperetin, has been reported to be a dual phosphodiesterase (PDE)3/4 inhibitor. We investigated its inhibitory effects on methacholine (MCh)-induced airway hyperresponsiveness (AHR) and its potential for treating atypical asthma and COPD. Methods FlexiVent system was used to determine AHR in ovalbumin (OVA) sensitized and challenged mice. Determination of cytokines was performed by using mouse T helper (Th)1/Th2 cytokine CBA kits, and of total immunoglobulin (Ig)E and OVA-specific IgE using ELISA kits. The number of inflammatory cells was counted using a hemocytometer. Xylazine/ketamine-induced anesthesia was to assess nausea, vomiting, and gastric hypersecretion in these mice. Results HTME dually and competitively inhibited PDE3/4 activities in the Lineweaver-Burk analysis. HTME (30 and 100 μmol/kg) dose-dependently and significantly decreased the airway resistance (RL) and increased lung dynamic compliance (Cdyn) values induced by MCh.
