Since an invention of synthetic fibers (textiles), our life quality has been improved. However, the cumulative production and disposal of them have perceived as significant since they are not biodegradable and hard to be upcycled/recycled. From washing textiles, microplastics are released into the environment, which are regarded as emerging contaminants. As a means for source reduction of microplastics, this study proposed a rapid disposal platform for waste textiles (WTs), converting them into value-added products. To this end, catalytic pyrolysis of WT was studied. To offer more environmentally sound process, CO2 was used as a raw material for WT pyrolysis. Thermal cracking of WT led to the production of syngas and CH4 under the CO2 environment. CO2 resulted in additional CO production via gas phase reaction with volatile compounds evolved from pyrolysis of WT. To expedite the reaction kinetics for syngas formation, catalytic pyrolysis was done over Co-based catalyst. Comparing to non-catalytic pyrolysis, CO2-assisted catalytic pyrolysis had 3- and 8-times higher production of H2 and CO, respectively. This process also suppressed catalyst deactivation, converting more than 80 wt% of WT into syngas and CH4. The more generation of CO from the use of CO2 as a raw material offers an effective means to minimize the formations of harmful chemical species, such as benzene derivatives and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons.Although chronic stress is an acknowledged risk factor for the development of somatic and affective disorders, the cellular and molecular mechanisms underlying stress-induced pathologies are not fully understood. Interestingly, rodent studies involving immune cell transfer suggest that CD4+ T cells might be at least in part involved in reactivation of a chemically-induced colitis by stress. However, until now evidence is lacking that these immune cell types are indeed involved in the development of a "stressed phenotype". The aim of the present study was, therefore, to assess the effects of adoptively transferring total mesenteric lymph node cells (mesLNCs) and CD4+ mesLNCs isolated from chronically-stressed mice into healthy recipient mice on various physiological, immunological and behavioral parameters. To induce chronic psychosocial stress in donor mice we employed the chronic subordinate colony housing (CSC) paradigm. Our data indicate that transfer of total or CD4+ mesLNCs from CSC mice, compared with respective cells from single-housed control (SHC) mice, promoted splenomegaly and interferon (IFN)-γ secretion from in vitro anti-CD3-stimulated mesLNCs in naïve recipient mice. This effect was independent of recipient mice additionally being administered with dextran sulfate sodium (DSS) or not. Transfer of CD4+ mesLNCs additionally increased adrenal weight and secretion of IL-6 from in vitro anti-CD3 stimulated mesLNCs in recipients administered with DSS. Importantly, transfer of neither cell type from CSC vs. SHC donor mice affected anxiety-related behavior of recipient mice in the light-dark box. Taken together, our data demonstrate that typical physiological and immunological, but not behavioral, effects of chronic stress can be induced in naïve recipient mice by adoptively transferring mesLNCs, in particular CD4+ mesLNCs, from chronically stressed donor mice. The unprecedented access to annotated genomes now facilitates the investigation of the molecular basis of epigenetic phenomena in phenotypically diverse animals. In this critical review, we describe the roles of molecular epigenetic mechanisms in regulating mitotically and meiotically stable spatiotemporal gene expression, phenomena that provide the molecular foundation for the intra-, inter-, and trans-generational emergence of physiological phenotypes. By focusing principally on emerging comparative epigenetic roles of DNA-level and transcriptome-level epigenetic mark dynamics in the emergence of phenotypes, we highlight the relationship between evolutionary conservation and innovation of specific epigenetic pathways, and their interplay as a priority for future study. This comparative approach is expected to significantly advance our understanding of epigenetic phenomena, as animals show a diverse array of strategies to epigenetically modify physiological responses. DSS Crosslinker cell line Additionally, we review recent technological advances in the field of molecular epigenetics (single-cell epigenomics and transcriptomics and editing of epigenetic marks) in order to (1) investigate environmental and endogenous factor dependent epigenetic mark dynamics in an integrative manner; (2) functionally test the contribution of specific epigenetic marks for animal phenotypes via genome and transcript-editing tools. Finally, we describe advantages and limitations of emerging animal models, which under the Krogh principle, may be particularly useful in the advancement of comparative epigenomics and its potential translational applications in animal science, ecotoxicology, ecophysiology, climate change science and wild-life conservation, as well as organismal health.Body deformity occurs both in wild and farmed fishes, which is one of the most challenging problems for aquaculture industry. In most cases, such body deformities are linked to skeletal deformities. Currently, very limited information is available on skeletal deformities of farmed fish species which may be caused by genetic factor. In this study, we performed muscle and vertebra transcriptome analyses in body deformity and normality of bighead carp Hypophthalmichthys nobilis (from one meiotic gynogenesis family) using RNA-Seq. A total of 43,923 and 44,416 unigenes were predicted in muscles and vertebrae, respectively. Based on these data, we further explored the gene expression profiles in gynogenetic normal and abnormal bighead carp. No differentially expressed gene (DEG) was found in transcriptome data of muscles. Totally, 20 key DEGs were identified in transcriptome data of vertebrae, such as low density lipoprotein-related protein 2 (lrp2), bone morphogenetic protein 2B (bmp2b) and collagen alpha-1(IV) (col4a1). 12 potential pathways were also identified in vertebra transcriptome data, which were mainly involved in development, growth, cytoskeleton and energy metabolism, such as MAPK signaling pathway, regulation of actin cytoskeleton and TGF-beta signaling pathway. Results of this study will be informative for the understanding of genetic mechanisms for body shape formation and also provide potential candidate genes for selection program involved in body shape and skeletal development in H. nobilis.
