The Gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) and glutamate (Glu) neurotransmitter systems are implicated in depression. While previous studies found reduced GABA levels, and a tendency towards reduced Glu, using proton (1H) magnetic resonance spectroscopy (1H-MRS), little is known about GABAA receptor availability in depression. Here, the aim was to characterize GABA and Glu-levels in dorsal anterior cingulate cortex (dACC), whole-brain GABAA availability, and their relationship in patients with depression compared to healthy controls. Methyl-beta-cyclodextrin Forty-two patients and 45 controls underwent 1H-MRS using a MEGA-PRESS sequence to quantify dACC GABA+ and Glu (contrasted against creatine [Cr]). Immediately preceding the 1H-MRS, a subsample of 28 patients and 15 controls underwent positron emission tomography (PET) with [11C]Flumazenil to assess whole-brain GABAA receptor availability. There were no differences in dACC GABA+/Cr or Glu/Cr ratios between patients and controls. The same was true for whole-brain GABAA receptor availability. However, there was a significant negative relationship between GABA+/Cr ratio and receptor availability in ACC, in a whole-brain voxel-wise analysis across patients and controls, controlling for group or depressive symptoms. This relatively large study did not support the GABA-deficit hypothesis in depression, but shed light on GABA-system functioning, suggesting a balance between neurotransmitter concentration and receptor availability in dACC.Herein we present a single institution 5-year experience with ascending aorta dissection biopsies depicting the clinicopathological features of 62 cases. To detect microscopic abnormalities in the aortic wall beside the dissection itself, we applied a new histopathological classification scheme from the consensus documents issued by The Society for Cardiovascular Pathology and The Association for the European Cardiovascular Pathology in 2015 and 2016. The most common finding was medial degeneration (MD) - 61 cases (98.4%); atherosclerosis (AS) was found in 19 aortae (30.6%), and chronic aortitis- giant cell pattern described in one aorta (1.6%). The medial degeneration constituents included mucoid matrix accumulation, smooth muscle cells and elastic fibers abnormalities, and medial fibrosis. The consensus document application led to increased MD reporting compared to older studies and to our previous experience, probably due to assessing more subtle and focal changes such as intralamellar fibrosis, intralamellar mucoid matrix accumulation, and loss of smooth muscle cell nuclei- these changes being also the most common MD abnormalities we are reporting. We have compared the results in patients with bicuspid (n = 7; 11.3%) versus tricuspid (n = 55; 88.7%) aortic valve, suggesting no significant differences except for translamellar fibrosis, which appeared to be more severe in the bicuspid valve group (p = 0.0397). The results might imply similar histopathological findings regardless of the aortic valve cuspidity in aortic dissection. These findings are in contrast to ascending aorta dilation (aneurysm), where more severe medial degeneration changes have been described in patients with the tricuspid aortic valve. Comparison of deep learning algorithm, radiomics and subjective assessment of chest CT for predicting outcome (death or recovery) and intensive care unit (ICU) admission in patients with severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) infection. The multicenter, ethical committee-approved, retrospective study included non-contrast-enhanced chest CT of 221 SARS-CoV-2 positive patients from Italy (n=196 patients; mean age 64±16years) and Denmark (n=25; mean age 69±13years). A thoracic radiologist graded presence, type and extent of pulmonary opacities and severity of motion artifacts in each lung lobe on all chest CTs. Thin-section CT images were processed with CT Pneumonia Analysis Prototype (Siemens Healthineers) which yielded segmentation masks from a deep learning (DL) algorithm to derive features of lung abnormalities such as opacity scores, mean HU, as well as volume and percentage of all-attenuation and high-attenuation (opacities >-200 HU) opacities. Separately, whole lung radiomics were obtained for all CT exams. Analysis of variance and multiple logistic regression were performed for data analysis. Moderate to severe respiratory motion artifacts affected nearly one-quarter of chest CTs in patients. Subjective severity assessment, DL-based features and radiomics predicted patient outcome (AUC 0.76 vs AUC 0.88 vs AUC 0.83) and need for ICU admission (AUC 0.77 vs AUC 0.0.80 vs 0.82). Excluding chest CT with motion artifacts, the performance of DL-based and radiomics features improve for predicting ICU admission. The study aimed to investigate potential coronaphobia-related factors in adults and to assess the relationship between coronaphobia and sleep quality. This cross-sectional study was conducted in 1262 participants. The Covid-19 Phobia Scale (C19P-S) and Jenkins Sleep Scale (JSS) were used to measure outcomes. Univariate and multivariate logistic regression analyses were constructed to determine risk factors for coronaphobia. Pearson correlation coefficient was used to assess the correlation between C19P-S and JSS. The following risk factors were found to be associated with coronaphobia gender, marital status, presence of chronic disease, staying home, and sleep disturbances. Female gender (OR=2.23 and OR=2.12), being married (OR=1.31 and OR=1.45), chronic disease status (OR=1.39 and OR=1.27), staying home (OR=1.72 and OR=1.35) and sleep disturbances (OR=2.63 and OR=2.49) were found to be associated with the likelihood of having a higher coronaphobia score (p<0.05).
