A new method for the synthesis of chiral diene rhodium catalysts is introduced. The readily available racemic tetrafluorobenzobarrelene complexes [(R2 -TFB)RhCl]2 were separated into two enantiomers via selective coordination of one of them with the auxiliary S-salicyl-oxazoline ligand. One of the resulting chiral complexes with an exceptionally bulky diene ligand [(R,R-iPr2 -TFB)RhCl]2 was an efficient catalyst for the asymmetric insertion of diazoesters into B-H and Si-H bonds giving the functionalized organoboranes and silanes with high yields (79-97 %) and enantiomeric purity (87-98 % ee). The stereoselectivity of separation via auxiliary ligand and that of the catalytic reaction was predicted by DFT calculations. Multiple myeloma (MM) is a clonal disorder characterized by the proliferation of plasma cells and their accumulation within the bone marrow (BM). The flow cytometric analysis is an essential method for the hematological diseases because of high sensitivity. This study evaluates the indication role of malignant plasmacytes (PCs) in BM detected by flow cytometry for the risk stratification of MM. Whole BM samples from 92 newly diagnosed MM patients were included in the study. We collected 10 cells each sample by flow cytometry. Then we analyzed the correlation between the malignant PCs in BM and the characteristics of patients. In this study, patients were stratified according to different baseline characteristics and the median ratio of the malignant PCs were compared. The significant statistical differences (p < 0.05) were Hb < 100 g/L versus ≥100 g/L; β2-microglobulin <3.5 mg/dL versus 3.5-5.5 mg/dL versus >5.5 mg/dL; LDH > 250 U/L versus LDH 250 U/L; ISS I versus ISS II versus ISS Id as a predictor for the risk stratification system of MM. Thus, it should be considered applying in the routine evaluation of MM at diagnosis and after therapy.The association between acute graft pyelonephritis (AGPN) and graft failure in kidney transplant recipients (KTR) remains controversial. In this single-center observational study, we aimed to assess the incidence of AGPN as a time-dependent posttransplantation event. We also examined the association between the diagnosis of AGPN and graft outcomes. In total, we evaluated 1480 patients who underwent kidney transplantation between January 2007 and December 2017. During a median follow-up of 5.04 years, we observed 297 AGPN episodes that occurred in 158 KTR. To evaluate the association between AGPN and clinical outcomes, we performed Cox proportional hazards regression analyses in which AGPN was entered as a time-dependent covariate. AGPN was independently associated with an increased risk of graft loss (hazard ratio = 1.66; 95% confidence interval [CI] 1.05-2.64, p less then .03) and a persistently decreased eGFR (fixed effect on intercept -2.29 ml/min/1.73 m2 ; 95% CI from -3.23 to -1.35, p less then .01). However, neither mortality nor biopsy-proven acute rejection was found to correlate with AGPN. Moreover, recurrent AGPN episodes did not appear to have an additive detrimental impact on graft loss. These data represent a promising step in understanding whether AGPN prevention may decrease the risk of graft loss in KTR. This study aimed to clarify caregivers' knowledge of liquid formula for better utilization in disaster situations. A cross-sectional, questionnaire-based study was conducted for 6 weeks between August 26 and October 4, 2019, in Aiiku Hospital and Aiiku Clinic (Minato Ward, Tokyo, Japan). Caregivers at 1-, 3-4-, and 6-7-month infant medical checkups participated. Caregivers' knowledge about cup feeding method and handling of residual liquid formula was evaluated. Caregivers were divided into high or low knowledge groups. Logistic regression analysis was performed to analyze the relation between caregivers' information sources on liquid formula and each caregivers' knowledge group (high or low). Only 10.5% of caregivers were included in the high knowledge group regarding cup feeding method, whereas 83.0% of caregivers were included in the high knowledge group regarding handling of residual liquid formula. Only 8.0% of caregivers were included in the high knowledge group regarding both cup feeding method and handling of residual liquid formula. Logistic regression analysis showed that none of the information sources (hospital/clinic, TV/newspaper/magazine/website, milk company's website/advertisements, retail store, study meeting/event/social networking service, friend/grandmother, work place) affected the caregivers' knowledge. For biocatalytic demethylation, monooxygenases have previously been described requiring molecular oxygen which may cause oxidative side reactions. Here we show that such compounds can be demethylated anaerobically by using cobalamin-dependent methyltransferases exploiting thiols like ethyl 3-mercaptopropionate as a methyl trap. Using just two equivalents of this reagent, a broad spectrum of substituted guaiacol derivatives were demethylated, with conversions mostly above 90 %. This strategy was used to prepare the highly valuable antioxidant hydroxytyrosol on a one-gram scale in 97 % isolated yield.
