To evaluate the effectiveness of an information-motivation-behavioral skills (IMB) model-based multi-component intervention on engagement and the quality of preventive behaviors against respiratory infections among community-dwelling older adults. This study was a controlled pretest-posttest study in which 91 community-dwelling older adults aged above 65 years were included. The intervention group (n = 42) received the six-week intervention theoretically based on the IMB model that comprised weekly group education and 5-10 min of tele-counseling per week. The results showed that, after the intervention, the improvement in the level of knowledge, self-efficacy, self-reported engagement, and the quality of respiratory infection preventive behaviors was significantly greater in the intervention group compared to the control group. There was no significant difference between the two groups for the perceived threat of respiratory infection. The IMB model-based intervention improved the engagement and quality of preventive behaviors by increasing the level of knowledge and self-efficacy in community-dwelling older adults. To evaluate responses by people with knee osteoarthritis to a brief educational video about their condition that aimed to empower and motivate effective self-management. The video content addressed psychosocial contributors to pain and barriers to behaviour change. A mixed methods design, including a survey and semi-structured interviews, was used to collect data from 118 people (46-83 years, 78% female) with knee osteoarthritis. Quantitative data analysis showed the video was rated positively on 0-6 scales for enjoyability (mean 5.0), helpfulness (4.9), relevance (5.0) and believability (5.4). The majority would recommend the video (89%), learned new information (78%) and/or reported intentions to change behaviour (78%). A minority disliked aspects of the video (23%). A total of 2,400 one-day-old Ross 308 mixed-sex broilers (11 ratio of males and females) were used in a completely randomized design utilizing a 3 × 2 factorial arrangement of treatments, with 12 replicates per treatment. Each replicate for FL, MC, and PN consisted of 34 birds per floor pen, 30 birds per cage, and 36 birds per net pen, respectively, ensuring the same stocking density (12 birds/m2) across the 3 systems. Results showed that lower ADG (average daily gain), ADFI (average daily feed intake), and FCR (feed conversation ratio) observed in the MC group than those of the other 2 systems from 1 to 36 d of age (P less then 0.05). DNA hydroxymethylation may be induced by oxidative stress in lupus patients, so we investigated the association between DNA hydroxymethylation and demethylation with the antioxidant response. A case-control study was performed including lupus patients and matched healthy controls. Serum concentration of glutathione (GSH), glutathione disulphide (GSSG), superoxide dismutase (SOD) and total antioxidant capacity (TAC), 5-mC and 5-hmC were determined. One hundred and forty-two patients and 34 controls were included. 5-hmC levels were lower in SLE patients than in controls. GSH and GSSG values were lower in patients, while SOD levels were higher in patients. TAC did not show significant differences, but higher demethylation and lower hydroxydemethylation were associated to increased TAC values. Lower demethylation was associated with cytopenia and lower hydroxymethylation with longer course of the disease. Lower levels of GSH and GSSG and higher SOD values were associated with accumulated damage assessed by SLICC-ACR. Lower hydroxymethylation in patients than in controls was observed. Moreover, higher demethylation and lower hydroxymethylation leads to high TAC levels.
