The most commonly performed surgery was a multilevel thoracolumbar decompression without fusion (57%). Complications included durotomy (36%), neurologic complication (12%), and infection requiring irrigation and debridement (8%). Nine patients (36%) underwent a subsequent surgery. Three patients (12%) underwent a procedure at a non-contiguous anatomic zone, 3 (12%) underwent a revision of the previous surgery, and another 3 (12%) required extension of their previous decompression or fusion. Surgical complication rates remain high after spine surgery in patients with skeletal dysplasia, likely attributable to inherent characteristics of the disease. Patients should be counseled on their risk for complication and subsequent surgery.Surgical complication rates remain high after spine surgery in patients with skeletal dysplasia, likely attributable to inherent characteristics of the disease. To determine the rate of post-operative retinal detachment after elective pars plana vitrectomy for epiretinal membrane, and to test for the mitigating effect of prophylactic endolaser. We identified 459 eyes of 411 patients undergoing vitrectomy for epiretinal membrane at Vanderbilt University Medical Center between January 2010 and May 2017. Patients who underwent concurrent endolaser without any identified retinal break were included in the exposure cohort. Patients who underwent no prophylactic retinopexy or ablation were included in the unexposed cohort. Exposure data, demographic data, and outcome data were tabulated for comparison. The final analysis included 343 eyes of 343 patients. Approximately 7% of eyes undergoing ERM surgery were found to have a full-thickness retinal break which was not seen preoperatively. The overall rate of postoperative RD was 2.04%. Postoperative retinal detachment occurred in 0 of the 34 eyes exposed to prophylactic laser, and in 7 of the 309 control eyes. Odds ratio was found to be 0.60 (  = 0.598 (95%CI 0.0327-10.7),  = 0.72), indicated the results were not statistically significant. Looking at patients undergoing routine vitrectomy surgery for epiretinal membrane, no retinal detachments occurred in the group receiving prophylactic treatment, though this association did not reach statistical significance. With modern surgical techniques, post-operative retinal detachment remains relatively rare after vitrectomy for ERM though a thorough intraoperative exam is critical to identify occult retinal breaks.Looking at patients undergoing routine vitrectomy surgery for epiretinal membrane, no retinal detachments occurred in the group receiving prophylactic treatment, though this association did not reach statistical significance. MEDLINE, PubMed, Embase and Cochrane CENTRAL were searched for studies using ultrasound or MRI to detect Stener lesions following suspected thumb ulnar collateral ligament injuries. The reference standard was surgical exploration or clinical joint stability. Risk of bias was assessed using the Quality Assessment of Diagnostic Accuracy Studies tool. A random-effects bivariate meta-analysis was used to estimate pooled sensitivity and specificity. Forest plots were generated. Nine ultrasound (315 thumbs) and six MRI (107 thumbs) studies were included in meta-analysis (all high risk of bias). Pooled sensitivity and specificity for ultrasound were 95% and 94%, and for MRI were 93% and 98%. Both ultrasound and MRI demonstrate high diagnostic accuracy in detecting Stener lesions. Ultrasound is an appropriate first-line imaging modality. The purpose of this study was to describe knowledge and beliefs about SARS-CoV2 and COVID-19 and explore the gaps between current media coverage of health risks and what the general public knows about the virus and its outcome. A 37-question survey was developed and administered to a community collaborative group in a Midwestern state in the United States. Fifty-three participants completed the survey. When asked where participants found their information, a majority reported the internet (33.9%, n = 18/53) and radio and/or tv (28.3%, n = 15/53). Most participants showed a basic level of COVID-19 knowledge, but few could identify the 3 most frequent symptoms of COVID-19 (7.5%, n = 4/53). The results from this study highlight the continued need for increased public health communication. Educational efforts should focus on social media and internet outlets to address COVID-19 misinformation, strategies to address vaccine hesitancy, and the associated communication gap to help address related health disparities.Access to employment opportunities is associated with increased quality of life for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities; however, many adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities struggle to find employment. One reason they may have difficulty achieving employment is an inability to work independently. Self-management interventions have been used to promote independence in the workplace for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities by involving them in changing their own behavior. In this literature review, we identified 47 peer-reviewed, single-case design studies in which researchers investigated the use of self-management interventions as an intervention component to improve the vocational skills for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Visual analysis of the data indicated that most participants were successful at improving skills related to on-task behavior, task completion, independent transitions, and self-initiations. Potential directions for future research and implications for practice are discussed. The use of continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) has become standard practice in people with type 1 diabetes. The evaluation of user satisfaction is crucial. The Glucose Monitoring Experiences questionnaire (GME-Q) includes 23 items with a 5-point Likert scale to produce a total satisfaction score and three subscale scores. The study aimed to translate the GME-Q from English into Spanish and to validate its use in Spanish-speaking CGM users with type 1 diabetes. The linguistic translation and validation process of the GME-Q was established. T1D CGM users were asked to complete the produced Spanish version of the GME-Q and interviewed about difficulties or misunderstandings. Total satisfaction, effectiveness, convenience and intrusiveness subscales and internal consistency reliability were computed. Forward and backward translations and cognitive debriefing produced a final version of the GME-Q in Spanish.
